Hangar Maintenance – Much More Than Industrial Cleaning
QCS Cleaning were called to undertake hangar maintenance at Carlisle Lake District Airport for the HM Coastguard Search and Rescue Helicopter.
We understand this is absolutely safety critical work. A helicopter hangar is not just a garage or warehouse. It houses precision machinery within an avionic sensitive zone. COSHH compliance, environmental controls and Health and Safety Executive expectations are all things to take into account.
Not Just Normal Dirt
Over time, aviation oils and hydraulic fluids atomise and settle on the floors, walls, and roof trusses therefore we use specialist cleaning solutions. Rubber and composite dust from rotor blades, tyres and maintenance work can also build up. In view of the electronic machinery on site, a simple chemical jet wash is NOT the way forward. As you can see from the photographs we carefully cleaned the ceiling including roof lights using low moisture cleaning.
Apron Maintenance
Because the apron in front of the hangar is designed for all weather types, including heavy rain, it is suitable to receive water-based chemical cleaning. An accurate cleaning solution choice is required for this because of the variety of items that need to be cleaned – aviation oils and fluids as well as moss and algae. A concrete apron has many grooves and ridges which we carefully clean and remove all debris so as not to cause danger to the rotary wing aircraft and ultimately the lives of its occupants.
Hangar Maintenance We Undertake
- Low moisture cleaning of floors.
- High level cleaning of steelwork, roof lights, ventilation,
- Cleaning door tracks and thresholds where grease and dust combine,
- Degreasing of maintenance bays – we only use aviation approved products.
Timing of Hangar Maintenance
Timing is everything when working around any type of aircraft hangar. It is important the aircraft, whether fixed wing or rotary wing, is not affected by cleaning work, therefore we work around your timetable.
Working Towards Operational Readiness
We work with you so that you are always operationally ready. This is particularly true with the HM Coastguard Search and Rescue Helicopter because they don’t work to any particular timetable. Instead they must be ready around the clock.
